Joel graduated from the UBC school of Physiotherapy in 2003. He also obtained his Diploma in Sports Physiotherapy in 2007. Before starting MotionWorx Physiotherapy with Ingrid in 2019, Joel has worked in 2 clinics in Kelowna spanning over 16 years.
Joel has a true passion for trying to solve the source of the injury (rather than just treating the symptoms), which often requires looking at the patient’s movement dysfunction and compensation pattern, and then finding ways to undo them.
As one of only two physiotherapists in the Okanagan to have this honour, Joel was selected to be a member of the core medical staff working at the Polyclinic at the 2010 Winter Olympics. Over the past 16 years, he has worked with countless athletes in the Okanagan including those from the NHL, UFC, Pro Wakeboard Tour, National Snowboard and Ski-Cross Teams, Okanagan Sun Football, TOFC/Kelowna United, as well as various levels of Hockey, Basketball and Volleyball. He has also worked extensively with runners/triathletes, climbers, and various forms of dancers (Ballet, Highland, Irish etc.), and his true passion lies with treating athletes involved in combat sports: MMA, kickboxing and Brazillian Jiu Jitsu, in particular.
Other than treating athletes (and non-athletes) of all ages and abilities, Joel is trained in the management of Concussions, as well as Vertigo Related Disorders. He is also trained in Acupuncture.
Joel is a Clinical Instructor for the University of British Columbia School of Physiotherapy, and is also an examiner for Sport Physiotherapy Canada. Joel loves teaching, so don’t be surprised if students are around, or you as a client get asked questions!
As a kid, Joel was that annoying kid that did EVERY sport. Now he has finally settled on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He is a purple belt at Pacific Top Team, so be nice, and he will too.
